Day 261: Drawing Dory with Abby Hanlon
Abby Hanlon is the author and illustrator of Dory Fantasmagory (2014, Penguin Random House), the first in a series of chapter books for five to eight year olds. Dory Fantasmagory is a Golden Kite Honor Book for Fiction, an American Library Association Notable Book, and a Scholastic book club selection. It was named a Best Book of the Year by Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, and Parent's Magazine.
Dory Fantasmagory and its sequel, Dory and The Real True Friend (July 2015) are both Junior Library Guild Selections, and will be published in ten languages. In a starred review, Publisher's Weekly called Dory and The Real True Friend "a sequel every bit as delightful as its predecessor."
Abby has a bachelor's from Barnard College and a master's degree in childhood education from the City College of New York. Abby has taught creative writing and first grade in the New York City public school system. Her debut picture book, Ralph Tells a Story (2012), is widely used by elementary school teachers.
Abby lives in Brooklyn with her husband, eight-year-old twins, and scruffy dog Caroline.
